CLINTON---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College had one last chance to tie Baton Rouge and send the Region 23 Semi-Final game into overtime with 3 seconds left. However, a last second three-point shot to tie the game by Shameika Hart came up short and the Lady Bulldogs’ season ended in a 62-59 loss to Baton Rouge.

Gulf Coast (18-7) was hoping to go into overtime for the second straight game after beating Northeast 68-60 a day before.

The Lady Bulldogs committed 21 turnovers against Baton Rouge (22-8) and were down 34-28 at halftime but clawed back in the second half to turn the contest into a nip-and-tuck battle to the very end.

Hart led Gulf Coast with 17 points while Presley Owens had 15, Yasmine Nelson had 12, and Markia Nix added 11.

Owens, a sophomore from Vancleave, was also named to the All-Region 23 Tournament Team.

Baton Rouge moves on to play Itawamba in the women’s final at 6 p.m. Saturday.
