MGCCC softball sweeps Hinds in South Division opener

RAYMOND---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College used an extra inning win to gain momentum and sweep Hinds 3-2 and 14-1 Saturday.

In game one the Lady Bulldogs (13-4, 2-0) manufactured runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game 2-2. In the eighth inning, Morgan Fairley, who also stole three bases, made it from second base to home on groundouts. Hinds couldn’t not advance it’s base runner in the bottom half of the inning.

Reina Baluja had two hits at the plate, pitched eight innings, and struck out nine to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Gulf Coast exploded for 18 hits and got two homeruns each from Dani Craft and Emily Davis and another long ball from Brook Gaston. Craft went 4-for-5, Davis was 3-for-4, Fairley had three hits, and Shalaria Pickens and Lea Kittrell each had two.

Davis also pitched a four hit shutout.

Gulf Coast, now on a five game win streak, hosts Co-Lin Wednesday at 3 & 5 p.m.
