MGCCC men’s tennis continues unbeaten streak

MGCCC sophomore Nick Georgian & the men's team is now 9-0.

BILOXI---The men’s tennis squad at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College put its seven match unbeaten streak on the line Thursday and Friday and promptly dispatched Jones 9-0 and then took care of No. 14 Meridian 8-1 to go to 9-0 on the season.

Against Jones, Lachlan Puyol took down Josh Lomas 6-1, 6-1 in number one singles, while Sean Robinson defeated Tanner Chambee 6-1, 6-3 in number two singles. Also winning in singles and doubles for Gulf Coast were Alex Puyol, Nick Georgian, Travis Burdick and Grant Bell.

Then against Meridian Alex Puyol got past Joshau Marx 6-2, 6-4 in number one singles while Lachlan Puyol whipped Kevin Millet 6-1, 6-0. Nick Georgian, Travis Burdick, and Grant Bell all scored singles victories over Meridian.

Alex and Lachlan Puyol, Sean Robinson, Burdick and Bell were also victorious in doubles play. The Gulf Coast men are now ranked No. 22 in the ITA standings.

“I’m very proud of the way our men have played so far this season,” said Gulf Coast head coach Gary Bourgeois. “The guys brought their “A” games against a very tough Meridian team.”

The Lady Bulldogs (4-5) played tough but were handled by both Jones and Meridian in their matches Thursday and Friday.

Gulf Coast hosts Faulkner State Monday at the Biloxi Tennis Center.
