Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is making the most of its first trip to the post-season since 2006.
The Lady Bulldogs, the No. 4 seed from the South, outplayed and outgunned North No. 1 seed East Mississippi 67-60 in the opening round of the MACJC Tournament hosted by Co-Lin.

“It was easily our best performance of the season,” said Gulf Coast head coach Melanie Stone. “Our defensive rebounding was a little shaky, but other than that we played well.”

Gulf Coast (16-8) took control of the contest from the beginning and led by as many as 10 before settling for a 35-30 lead at halftime.

East Miss. (14-9) clawed back in the second half and took a brief 46-45 lead with 10:01 to go. However, The Lady Bulldogs regained momentum and slowly pulled away from the MACJC North Champions.

Nicole Edwards led Gulf Coast with 16 points…most of them layups coming on the offensive end of the court. Brianna Blunt and Deonnica McCormick each had 13 points while Cara Beverin added 10.

The Lady Bulldogs now take on Jones, an 89-66 winner over Holmes, Wednesday for a 1 p.m. semi-final matchup. The Lady Bobcats (18-6) defeated Gulf Coast twice during the regular season.
