Six minute scoring drought dooms Gulf Coast against Jones

Tatyana Haywood goes up for two of her 12 points against Jones Feb. 23
The second half was a different story as the lady Bulldogs went six minutes without scoring while Jones cashed in on a 27-8 run to open up their own lead and pull away from Gulf Coast en route to a 72-59 win, the third this year by Jones over the Lady Bulldogs.
“We made some really poor decisions with the ball,” said Gulf Coast head coach Melaine Stone. “We didn’t get back on defense, especially in the second half, and that really hurt us.”
Deonica McCormick led Gulf Coast with 19 points while Delainna Lyons and Tatyana Haywood each had 12.
Gulf Coast (16-9) will regroup and get ready for next week’s Region 23 Tournament in Clinton.
“We’ll definitely make some adjustments and get refocused,” Stone added. “We’re still alive and playing ball, and we’ll be ready to go next week.”
