2011-05-05

CLINTON---No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College went toe-to-toe with No. 1 LSU-Eunice Thursday Night in the first round of the 2011 Region 23 Tournament. However, the Lady Bengals broke open a tied game in the ninth inning and win 8-3 to send the Lady Bulldogs to the elimination bracket.

Gulf Coast used a solo homer from Mariah Partman, her fifth of the season, to take a 2-1 lead. The game would eventually end up tied 3-3 until the top of the ninth, when LSU-E (48-9) erupted for five runs to pin the loss on pitcher Linsey Dickerson (16-8), who went four innings in relief of starter Kriss Albritton.

Kayla Hebert also had two hits for Gulf Coast (34-12). LSU-E defeated East Mississippi 16-2 earlier in the day to set up the showdown between two of the NJCAA'S top 10 teams.

The Lady Bulldogs take on archrival Pearl River (21-22), a 4-1 loser to Jones, in the elimination bracket Friday at Noon.
