MGCCC Bulldog cheerleaders, mascot win top awards at camp

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College cheerleaders and Bulldog mascot won several awards at competitions during the Universal Cheerleader Association (UCA) College Cheerleading Camp held at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa July 22-24. The 17-member squad won Superior awards in all competitions, second place in Sideline and third place in Cheer. The Bulldog mascot won the Superior Mascot award.

“We are pleased by how well the team did at camp, and we are looking forward to a great year ahead,” said Shellie Campbell, head cheerleader coach. “We pride ourselves in being the best, and I think we are off to a great start.”

The squad performs at all football and basketball games, and at numerous campus events, including Bulldog Day. They also participate in community activities along the Gulf Coast.

Mollie (Watts) Barger, a former Gulf Coast cheerleader, is the assistant coach for the cheerleading squad.
