MGCCC plays well at Fall Invitational

MGCCC’S Jared Smith lines up a putt at the MGCCC Fall Invitational. Smith earned Low Medalist honors for the two-day event.

Meridian Community College held on for a two-stroke victory at the annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Fall Invitational Oct. 17-18 at Windance Country Club. The Eagles shot 284-296 (580/+4) to earn a two shot victory over Darton College (290-292---582/+6). Central Alabama C.C. (289-305---594/+18) took third. The Gulf Coast Gold-A team (308-304---612/+36) took sixth while the MGCCC Blue-B squad (303-318---621/+45) finished 11th in the 15-team event.

Gulf Coast’s Jared Smith was the tournament’s Low Medalist after firing rounds of 71-72 (144) to put him at even par, one shot better than Meridian’s Jake Stirling (68-76---145/+1). Other Bulldog golfers finishing in the top 50 include Drew Seals (74-75---149/+5), Marcus Fox (72-80---152/+8), Jack Sargent (78-75---153/+9), Brad Thorton (78-78---156/+12), Kelsey New (77-79---156/+12), and Michael Maley (82-75---157/+13).

Gulf Coast will tee it up in Alexander City, AL. for it’s next fall match Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
