POPLARVILLE---There’s nothing like going on the road and beating your archrival. Unless that victory is your 11th in a row, then it’s much sweeter.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College not only whipped Pearl River 75-64 to extend its winning streak to 11, but the Bulldogs (15-2, 6-0) are still undefeated against MACJC competition in 2011-12, since both the team’s losses came against Pensacola (FL) State College.

Jeffery Simmons and Angel Matias each had 15 points to lead Gulf Coast while Justin Childs had 11 and Jeremiah Dunnings and Ice Asortse each chipped in 9.

Meanwhile the Lady Bulldogs (9-7, 3-3) dropped a 52-51 heartbreaker to Pearl River. Ricille Davis sank two free throws with eight seconds remaining to give Gulf Coast a 51-50 lead, but Lady Wildcat Branita Malone hit the game-winning layup with three seconds to go to seal the victory. Davis led Gulf Coast with 15 points while Cara Beverin added 10.

Gulf Coast enjoys an open date Jan. 30 before getting back in MACJC South Division action Feb. 2 at home against East Central.
