Bulldog men's winning streak snapped in last second loss

SUMMIT---Two winning streaks evaporated Thursday Night as Southwest upset No. 16 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 72-71 and ended the Bulldogs' 15-game winning streak. The loss also broke a 13-game winning streak by Gulf Coast against MACJC opponents.

The setback also temporarily stopped Gulf Coast from clinching the MACJC South Division. However, the 84-81 victory by Jones over Pearl River clinches the Bulldogs second straight MACJC South Division crown later in the evening.

Angel Matias led Gulf Coast with 16 points while Jeffery Simmons had 13 and Darius Forest added 12.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-10, 5-6) defeated Southwest 73-65 behind a 15-point effort from Delainna Lyons. Ricille Davis added 12 while Shameika Hart and LaPrecious Thompson each chipped in 11.

Gulf Coast hosts archrival Pearl River Monday with games at 6 & 8 p.m.
