East Central sweeps MGCCC softball

DECATUR---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College couldn’t shake the rust off a 16-day layoff as East Central earned a 5-3, 8-6 doubleheader sweep on the road Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs (15-5, 6-2) hadn’t played since Mar. 8 due to rainouts and Spring Break holidays.

In game one, pitcher Megan Lamb struck out six but gave up five runs on eight hits in six innings and took the loss. Julie Butler smacked her fifth homer of the season and Lamb had two hits at the plate.

The Lady Bulldogs scored six runs but committed three errors in the nightcap en route to the team’s second MACJC South Division loss of 2012.

Gulf Coast hosts Hinds Tuesday at with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
