PERKINSTON---Timely hitting, great starting pitching, and some home cooking all added up to an 8-2, 6-2 doubleheader sweep by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College over Southwest Wednesday.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 5-0, first inning lead in game one en route to an 8-2 victory. Ben Slaton’s two-run double and an RBI single by Dieter Hamilton got the offense clicking against the Bears. Jared Gates upped his record to 6-1 with another solid performance on the mound.

In the 6-2 nightcap, the Bulldogs used another five run outburst to take control. In the bottom of the third, Zac Haarala’s RBI double and a two-run homer by Slaton, his eighth round-tripper of the season, helped the Bulldogs to another 5-0 advantage. Daniel Miles also paced the offensive attack with two doubles.

On the mound, starter Tyler Bray (4-3, 1.83 ERA) walked five but still got the win while Daniel Wineski went 2 and 2/3 innings and struck out three in relief work.
