MGCCC tennis sweeps Co-Lin

The Bulldog men (8-2) took down Co-Lin 6-3 with Nick Georgian and Travis Burdick leading the way with wins in singles and doubles. In singles Georgian defeated Britt of Co-Lin 6-0, 6-1 and Burdick blew past Hart of Co Lin 6-1, 6-2. Also winning in singles for Gulf Coast was Lachlan Puyol, who secured his match 6-1, 6-3, and Grant Bell, who downed Ladd from Co-Lin 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, the teams of Georgian/Burdick and Bell/Cameron Wolfe both secured victories.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-2) were led by McKinsey Boss and Stacy Everhart as both were singles and doubles winners. Boss defeated Abby Moms 6-3, 3-6 and 10-2 in a third set tiebreaker, while Everhart got past Haley Wicker 7-5, 2-6, and 12-10 in a third set tiebreaker. Also winning in singles for Gulf Coast were Arielle Fisher, who defeated Macie Case 6-4, 6-3, Suzy Bowman, who won over Ansley Schimmel 6-1, 6-4, and Kaleigh Granthan, who controlled Jess Franklin in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. In number one doubles Case/Schimmel from Co-Lin stopped Fischer/Bowman from
Gulf Coast 8-5 while in number two doubles Everhart/Boss from GulfCoast ran past Wicker/Moms 8-1.
“We had a good long warm up session and that helped us get off to a good start,” said Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois. “We didn’t defend the second serve very well and that allowed Co-Lin to come from behind in a number of the tiebreaker matches. It took an outstanding effort to secure both wins.”
Gulf Coast hosts Meridian Tuesday and Faulkner State Thursday with both matches beginning at Noon.
