PERKINSTON---Once again pitching and defense aided Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in a doubleheader sweep against an MACJC South Division foe.

The Lady Bulldogs (19-5, 10-2) took two from Southwest 2-1 and 1-0 Friday. In the last four games, Gulf Coast has scored a total of seven runs but held Hinds and Southwest to a combined total of three runs.

In game one, an RBI single by Courtney Moore and a run scored on a wild pitch were all the Lady Bulldogs needed thanks to a gritty effort in the circle by starting pitcher Megan Lamb. The freshman allowed a run on three hits, walked four, and struck out six.

The lone run in the nightcap was scored in the bottom of the third when Bre Desporte scampered home on a wild pitch. Gulf Coast pitcher Fallon Dye earned a shutout against the Lady Bears on the mound.

Gulf Coast travels to Jones Monday for a doubleheader with MACJC South Division foe Jones with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
