MGCCC golf takes Northwest Invitational

SOUTHAVEN---The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College golf team is setting up for another championship run after taking the final MACJC regular season event hosted by Northwest.

The Bulldogs shot 283-286-589 to capture the Northwest Invitational Apr. 2-3 and completed a sweep of all five MACJC tournaments in 2012. Gulf Coast also took victories at the MGCCC Invitational and at Hinds, Co-Lin, and East Mississippi.

Jack Sargent led Gulf Coast with a 72-67-139 total, followed by Jared Smith (70-73-143), Marcus Fox (145), Michael Maley and Kelsey New (146), Brad Thornton (149), and Vince Leleux (177).

The Bulldogs will now focus on claiming the team’s third State title in a row at the MACJC Championship Apr. 16-17 hosted by Itawamba. After that Gulf Coast will go after it’s fifth straight Region title at the Region 23 Championship Apr. 22-23.
