Pearl River sweeps MGCCC softball

POPLARVILLE---In the second doubleheader between the two archrivals in the last three days, Pearl River got a 3-2, 7-4 sweep over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Saturday. The two teams split a twinbill at Perkinston Apr. 12.

In game one, the Lady Wildcats got a solo homerun from Morgan Cuevas in the bottom of the fourth inning that proved to be the game winner after Gulf Coast tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the frame when Shajuan Buckley scored from second on one of Pearl River’s four errors. Megan Lamb (10-4) took the loss in the circle while Lea Kittrell had two of her team’s six hits.

The Lady Bulldogs got a three-run homer from Britton Ross in the nightcap and two hits from Bre Desporte but couldn’t overcome five errors in the field. Fallon Dyle (9-5) absorbed the loss, giving up two earned runs along with five strikeouts.

Gulf Coast, ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA D-II poll, returns home to face East Central Tuesday with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
