PERKINSTON---After a six game run in three days to end the regular season, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College gets to take a break before next week’s MACJC Tournament Apr. 26-27 at Itawamba.

“We won four out of our last six division games,” said Gulf Coast head coach Kenneth Long. “The South Division is always tough, and if you make it to the playoffs the chance to win State is always there.”

The Lady Bulldogs (24-12, 15-9) clinched second place in the MACJC South Division this week after sweeping East Central Wednesday and splitting with Co-Lin Thursday and Hinds on Friday.

Gulf Coast dropped game one against Co-Lin 3-1 as the offense could only generate five hits while the defense committed three errors.

In the 7-6 nightcap, Bre Desporte had three hits while Lea Kittrell had two hits including a triple and 2 RBI. A Britton Ross RBI single drove in Megan Lamb to seal the victory. Fallon Dyle got the win in the circle for Gulf Coast.

A day later at Hinds, the Lady Bulldogs took game one 8-3 as Britton Ross had two doubles and 2 RBI, Julie Butler homered, and Kris Albritton had two RBI singles. Megan Lamb (12-5) got the win. Game two was a 9-1 win by Hinds with Ross coming up with two hits and the team’s only RBI. Dyle (11-6) suffered the defeat.

Gulf Coast will take on Northeast, the North Division No. 3 seed, Apr. 26 at 6 p.m. The semi-finals are set for Apr. 27 at 2 p.m. with the championship game slated for 5 p.m.

“I’m very proud of this team,” Long added. “We were ranked No. 11 at one point during the season, and that’s a credit to our outstanding players.”
