MERIDIAN---For the first time since 2004, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College men’s tennis team is headed to the NJCAA Tennis Tournament thanks to a third place finish at the Region 23 Tournament Apr. 25-26 in Meridian.

A win by Gulf Coast freshman Nick Georgian in the Region No. 4 singles title over Itawamba’s Luke Wilson 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 locked up the team’s trip to Plano, TX. May 14-18. Georgian also defeated Wilson a week ago for the No. 4 men’s MACJC title.

“Back on Feb. 24 in a regular season match, Georgian injured his shoulder against Wilson, so Nick really showed his determination by coming back and getting two big victories,” said Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois.

Fellow Bulldog Lachlan Puyol almost pulled off a win in No. 2 singles, but eventually fell to Meridian’s Anderes Lepez 6-4, 6-4. Puyol will join his twin brother Alex and Bulldog teammates Travis Burdick, Grant Bell, Cameron Wolfe, and Caleb Baughman on the trip to Texasnext month.
