Itawamba drops MGCCC baseball 9-4 at MACJC Tourney

FULTON---No. 7 Itawamba pounded out 15 hits and scored six runs in two innings to surge past Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 9-4 in the opening round of the MACJC Tournament. The home-standing Indians (38-9) moved on to a semi-final matchup with Hinds while the Bulldogs (27-18) take on Jones in an elimination game at Noon.

Gulf Coast jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning but the Indians quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Itawamba then scored three more runs in the sixth and got insurance runs in the seventh and eight innings.

Stuart Holmes (4-6) took the loss, going five innings and giving up four runs on eight hits. Ben Slaton and Michael Gilbert each had two hits for Gulf Coast.
