The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College tennis team has already reloaded for another championship run in 2013 with four signees that will join a battle tested group of sophomores next spring.

“This year’s signees will make an immediate impact on our team next year,” said Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois. “Each player is very talented and all of them are tough competitors.”

Josh Johnson helped Stone High win two straight 5A South State titles and was also a 5A mixed doubles State champion. He also made it to the State semi-finals in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

Brittney Buker comes to Gulf Coast from Cottage Hill Christian in Mobile. Buker has consistently ranked as one of the top players in the Mobile area throughout her career.

Sean Robinson was a State 6A Singles Champion as a junior and made it back to the finals as a senior. He was also a State 6A doubles finalist as a sophomore.

Kit Chowdhary was the team captain at St. Martin High School won her district’s singles championship as a sophomore.

This group of signees joins a men’s team that went to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2012 for the first time in eight years and a women’s squad that has been to the women’s National Tournament three times since 2007.

“Josh and Sean are joining a men’s team that was made up of all freshman last season,” Bourgeois added. “The battle for playing time will be tremendous, which means are squad will be very competitive. Brittney and Kit will also compete for playing time with a solid group of sophomores on our women’s team. I’m very excited about the potential are team has for next season.”
