Cream rises to the top in Week 6 of NJCAA football

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a tumultuous first half of the 2012 NJCAA football season, the top teams in the nation flexed their muscles last week and established themselves as championship contenders. The top seven ranked squads maintained their perfect records, while the bottom six schools in the Top 20 poll suffered key losses.

What started as a close matchup for Iowa Western – in their first ever game as the nation’s top-ranked team – quickly turned into a blowout as the No. 1 Reivers cruised to a 55-35 victory over Georgia Military. The Bulldogs gave Iowa Western all they could handle in the early-going and went into halftime trailing only 27-21. The Reivers quickly put the game out of reach in the second half however, when sophomore defensive lineman Devon Nash intercepted a Georgia Military pass and took it 80 yards for the touchdown. Iowa Western sophomore quarterback Jake Waters (right) was 19-of-28 passing for 323 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 81 yards and two more scores. Georgia Military was led by sophomore running back Mario Alford who finished with 136 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
