#11 MGCCC trounces #14 Co-Lin 54-21

WESSON---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College always has an up-tempo offense, but against Co-Lin the No. 11 Bulldogs took it to another frenetic level as they jumped out to a 20-0 lead en route to a 54-21 blowout of the No. 14 Wolves.

"We were making first downs so fast the chain crews couldn't keep up with us," said Gulf Coast quarterback Clint Hatten, who tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another as his team scored more than 50 points for the fourth time in eight games.

Two of Hatten's TD throws went to freshman wide receiver D'haquille Williams, who's now snagged 13 TD passes in 2012. The first one was a 43-yarder that Williams caught as he leaped between two defenders to give his team a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.

"He just went up and got it," Hatten said. "He does that every week."

The second touchdown pass to Williams was a 17-yarder in the third quarter that extended the Bulldogs' lead to 40-14 in the third quarter. Hatten rushed for a score and threw a TD pass to Tyrone Williams, Detric Goff rushed for two TD'S, Anton Thornton scored, and linebacker Trey Wafford picked a fumbled snap by Co-Lin punter Nolan Long and scored from 10 yards out to extend the Bulldog lead to 26-7 in the second quarter. The Bulldog defense forced two more turnovers and harassed Wolves quarterback Chandler Rogers all afternoon.

"The guys knew we had to have this game, and they played with a sense of urgency," said Gulf Coast head coach Steve Campbell, whose teams are now 9-1 all-time against Co-Lin including a five-game winning streak over the Wolves dating back to 2009. "We were sharp in all three phases, and that's what you have to do against a good football team like Co-Lin."

The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1) have also won four in a row since a loss to Jones and have taken control of the MACJC South Division with one game left. A win by Gulf Coast next week against East Central clinches the team's sixth division title since 2005 and the team's sixth straight trip to the playoffs.

Co-Lin (6-2, 4-1) must beat Southwest next week to clinch the No. 2 seed in the South.

"We haven't done anything yet," Campbell added. "We got this one, but we have to get another one next week."
