South Mountain takes MGCCC Fall Invitational

South Mountain (AZ) shot 294 on Tuesday at Windance Country Club to nip Faulkner University (AL) by one stroke in the 2012 MGCCC Hilton Garden Inn Fall Invitational. The No 1 ranked NJCAA D-II Cougars fired rounds of 311-294—605 to win the intercollegiate event for the second time in three years. Faulkner University started the day four shots back but quickly closed the gap, eventually finishing with a 291 and a total of 606. Host Mississippi Gulf Coast shot 317-299—616 to hold on to 3rd place, followed by Copiah-Lincoln 623, Faulkner St CC 628, Rend Lake (IL) 631, East Central 639, Meridian and Georgia Military 641, and Andrew College 687.

Georgia Military’s Ethan Chamineak shot 75-72—147 to claim Medalist honors, edging Jake Pritchard (MGCCC) and Jake Argento (South Mountain) by one shot. MGCCC’s Brad Thornton posted the low round of the day, a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to make the All-Tournament Team at 149 with Faulkner University’s Daniel Jansen and Andrew College’s Linus Manntz. Hayes Weathersby 154, Gabe Ahlers and Lewis Maples 165, and Corey Connell and Patrick Dickson 169, rounded out the scoring for Gulf Coast.
