MGCCC women’s tennis team heads to NJCAA National Tournament

Victoria Hagel helped the Lady Bulldogs win two matches at the Region 23 Tournament Apr. 20-21.

Lady Bulldogs finish 3rd at Region 23 event

MERIDIAN---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is headed back to the NJCAA National Tournament in Tucson, AZ. thanks to some gritty play by Gulf Coast sophomore Victoria Hagel. With top player Ruta Grinvalde out with a shoulder injury, Hagel won a Region 23 singles match over Meredith Johnson of Jones 6-2,6-2. Hagel then came back to win a key doubles victory with Megan Terrell against Rebecca Rogers and Tiffany Hudson (Jones) 7-5, 6-4. The two wins were enough to get Gulf Coast into third place by one point over Itawamba. The top three teams in the Region 23 Tournament automatically advance to play in Tucson May 1-6.

It’s the third time since 2007 that the women’s team coached by Gary Bourgeois has made it to the NJCAA National Tournament.
