MGCCC tennis wraps up 2010 regular season

It’s on to the MACJC State Tournament for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after matches against Northeast and Itawamba concluded the 2010 regular season.

Against Itawamba, the Gulf Coast men were shut out while the women’s team narrowly lost 5-4. Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Ruta Grindvalde, Victoria Hagel and Katy King as they all posted singles wins while Brittany Freeman and Katherine Blair won in doubles.

The men and women both rebounded against Northeast. The men won 5-4 as Tyler Eggers won a third-set tiebreaker in his singles match to decide to overall outcome for Gulf Coast. Eggers joined Kriss Baglais, Alex Drake, and Travis Ladner with singles victories. The women took care of Northeast 6-3 as Ruta Grindvalde and Victoria Hagel both won their singles matches and finished the regular season 13-0 in MACJC play. Also winning in singles was Katy King. In doubles action, Gulf Coast swept Northeast as Grundvalde/Morgan Rabby, Hagel/Megan Terrell, and Katherine Blair/Brittany Freeman all won in convincing style.

The MACJC State Tournament is set for Apr. 15-17 in Tupelo.
