South Women, North Men Prevail in MACJC All-Star Basketball Games

The South women and North men were victorious in the annual MACJC All-Star Basketball Games held Thursday night at East Central Community College’s Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the Decatur campus.

Octavia Bearden of Southwest pumped in 12 points in leading the South women to a 73-59 decision, and Gabe Osagie of Holmes poured in 14 points in the North men’s 100-75 victory.

Also scoring for the South women were Rachel Vigers of Copiah-Lincoln, 11; Kiara Johnson of Mississippi Gulf Coast, nine; Danielle Cole of East Central, Ashley Lee of Jones County and Brittany Weathers of Pearl River, eight each; Latoria Holder of Copiah-Lincoln and Brigit Taylor of Jones County, six each; Kiana McCarty of Hinds, three; and Yolanda Jones of East Central, two. Ta’keya Felder of Southwest and Brooke Eccles of Mississippi Gulf Coast also saw action. Johnson was named most valuable player.

Micherlyn Smith of Hinds served as head coach.

Martika Hull of East Mississippi led the North women with 13 points. Also scoring were Lori Crudup of Itawamba, nine; Birdie Bowens , also of Itawamba, eight; Tiffaney Haynes of Holmes, seven; Britney Lakes of Mississippi Delta, Tamara Wadlington of Northwest and Rumae Butler of Northeast, four each; De’Kisha Fonden of Northwest and Al’Lisha Hudson of Itawamba, three each; and Destini Shannon of Itawamba and Hope Adams of Northwest, two each. Ashley Love of Mississippi Delta also saw action.

Bernadette McDonald of Mississippi Delta served as head coach.

The South women held a 32-31 advantage at halftime.

In addition to Osagie, other North men point makers were Clyde Moore of Holmes, Dontenno Todd of Coahoma and Falando Jones of Mississippi Delta, 11 each; Vincenzo Nelson of Itawamba and Lonnie Cottrell III of Mississippi Delta, 10 each; Justin Gillard of Northwest, seven; Terrance Bennett and John Harris, both of East Mississippi and Chris Gamble of Northeast, six each; and Wesley McIntosh of Itawamba and Terrance Allen of Northeast, four each. Nelson was named most valuable player.

Derrick Fears of Mississippi Delta served as head coach.

Scorers for the South men were Mark Wilkerson of Hinds, 15; Michael Campbell of Copiah-Lincoln, 13; Kenderick Washington of Pearl River, 11; Rod Little, also of Pearl River, seven; Kendrick McDonald of Jones County, Chris Wallace of Hinds and Derrick Harris of Southwest, six each; Travis Rasco of Mississippi Gulf Coast, four; Antonio Grace of East Central, Todd McDonald of Jones County and Dwayne Brown of Copiah-Lincoln, two each; and Chad Jones of Southwest, one.

Ralph Moore of Hinds served as head coach.

The North led 37-33 at halftime.

Serving as sponsors for this year’s All-Star Games were Pepsi, Rush Sports Medicine and ECCC.
