Top Ranked Bulldogs hoping to improve

It seems hard to fathom, but the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs want to get better after the opening night 63-14 demolition of Coahoma. Gulf Coast, ranked #1 in the NJCAA, racked up 363 yards rushing and 559 total yards against the Tigers, while the Bulldog defense scored twice and forced a total of three turnovers. However, Gulf Coast head coach Steve Campbell's philosophy that teams make their most improvement between their first and second games will be on display this evening.

Starting quarterback Colton Kane threw two touchdown passes but left the game against Coahoma with an injury. If Kane doesn't play, freshman signal caller Terrian Page will get the start after tossing a TD pass in a relief effort last week. Freshman running back Rod Williams gained 120 yards on the ground for Gulf Coast, including a 79-yard TD scamper. Antwon Wells, Justin Brister, and T.J. McCann also scored touchdowns out of the Gulf Coast backfield.

Holmes comes to Perkinston 0-1 after losing 54-14 to Jones on opening night. The Bulldogs from Goodman suffered two blocked punts which resulted in scores for Jones, then a fumbled punt later resulted in a score and three major penalties on one drive set the Bobcats up first and 10 from the two where they later scored. Holmes is led by quarterback Payne Horan, who 20-of-40 for 214 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. He also ran the ball 19 times for 21 yards. Terrious Triplett was the Bulldogs' leading rusher with 42 yards on one carry, while receiver Daniel Huffines had six catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
