Hamilton’s board work gets Bulldogs’ 9th straight W

PERKINSTON — Playing its third game in four nights, Mississippi Gulf Coast's offense slowed down in the second half Thursday, but the Bulldogs held on for a 79-76 win over Delgado at Dantzler Arena.

Za'Kariyea Hamilton (So., Jackson/Clinton) was a big reason, leading the Bulldogs with 19 points, while pulling down seven rebounds.

"He got some really big rebounds there when it mattered," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "And for two years now, he's been a good rebounder from the perimeter. We needed all of them tonight from him."

The Bulldogs won their ninth straight to improve to 10-1.

Maddox Noblitt (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) also had 19 points, making 5-of-9 from behind the arc.  He added seven rebounds

Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) had 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Gulf Coast had a 14-2 run in the first half to go up 27-15, and the Bulldogs led by as many as 15 before the Dolphins (3-6) closed the gap to 46-39 at halftime.

Delgado scored seven of the first nine coming out of the break to get within two and tied it at 64 with 7:43 left. Hamilton had a big defensive rebound, then got a putback for a 69-64 lead. He answered a Dolphins bucket with a 3-pointer with 5:20 left and a 72-66 advantage.

Delgado got within two on two occasions down the stretch, but Gulf Coast closed it out.

"We had a lot of guys with fouls, and we did a really poor job defending the ball screen," Miller said. "Give Delgado a lot of credit. I thought they came in, and they controlled the tempo. Maybe we should have pressed a little more, but I thought we were a little tired."

The Bulldogs face their biggest test of the year so far Monday with a road trip to Ellisville. They'll play 12th-ranked Jones at 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://jcbobcats.com/watch, with tickets available at https://jcbobcats.com/tickets.
