Bio
Patrick Wilcher is entering his 11th season as Mississippi Gulf Coast assistant coach. During that span, the Bulldogs have won two MACJC titles and advanced to the 2009 NJCAA Tournament after winning the Region 23 championship.
Wilcher has coached 16 Division I players and had 12 players earn All-Region honors and another 13 named All-MACJC. The Bulldogs have won four South Division titles in his time at Perkinston.
Gulf Coast finished 21-6 in 2010-11 and 23-5 in 2011-12 to win state titles. The 2008-9 team went 19-11 on the way to Hutchinson, Kan. The 2006-7 team won the MACJC South Division and advanced to the Region 23 title game, finishing 22-7.
Wilcher has won all three games at Gulf Coast where he’s been active head coach. During his tenure, Gulf Coast has produced 42 players who have gone on to play at four-year schools, including 19 at Division I. There have been three players named NJCAA All-Americans, 14 All-Region players and 25 named All-MACJC.
He served as an assistant coach at Martin Methodist College for two seasons, where the teams beat five NAIA Top 25 teams and made it to the semifinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament in 2006. Three players were named All-Conference during that time.
Wilcher is on the mathematics faculty at Gulf Coast, and he has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ole Miss. He was named Elaine Dees Mullins Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Educator and Outstanding master’s degree student at the University of Mississippi
Patrick and his wife, Valerie, have a daughter, Lerah Rose, 1.
