Gulf Coast finishes second at Wesson

Mississippi Gulf Coast finished second for the second straight MACJC event, making up three strokes but losing to Meridian on Sunday.

The Bulldogs shot 2-under 286 on Sunday at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson to finish 8-over and 10 back of Meridian.

"We stunk it up yesterday," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "Against a good team like that, you can't play poorly and then come back. We've beaten them all three second rounds, but we can't give them that big a lead.

"We just didn't play well, but in those conditions yesterday, Meridian played great."

Gulf Coast also trailed Meridian by eight shots in the first MACJC event of the year, but came back to win.

Phillip Hickam shot 69 Sunday to finished at 1-over in a fourth-place tie, seven back of medalist Philip Heine
of Copiah-Lincoln, the host school. Hickam earned All-Tournament team honors.

Grant Motter matched Hickam's Sunday round and was another shot back in a sixth-place tie that included Colin Troxler.

Wyatt Adkison finished at 5-over, tied for 11th with Jesse Sunderman, who was playing as an individual. Jonathon Newman, playing as an individual, was tied for 13th at 6-over.

The Bulldogs returns to action Oct. 12-13 when they play in the Christian Brothers Fall Invitational in Olive Branch. The MGCCC Fall Invitational is Oct. 26-27 at Grand Bear in Saucier.
