No. 2 MGCCC faces No. 6 LSU-E at Perk

PERKINSTON — After having an open week, No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast gets back in action Monday with another stern test.

The Bulldogs play No. 6 LSU Eunice at Ross-Smith Field, with first pitch in the doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://livestream.com/MGCCCBulldogs/events/9022309.

Gulf Coast's last opponent was the Bengals, and the win in Meridian flipped their national rankings in last week's NJCAA Division II poll. It starts a stretch of three straight doubleheaders against top-20 opponents.

  • MGCCC beat LSU-E 5-1 on Feb. 23.
  • LSU Eunice split a pair of games Saturday at Brandon, beating Hinds 7-1 and losing 19-5 in five innings to East Central.

Gulf Coast beat LSU-E 5-1 in the Rush Invitational in Meridian on Feb. 23. Kristen Cade (So, Harrison Central/Saucier) struck out 14 in a three-hitter.

  • Rakeya Travis (Fr, Poplarville/Poplarville) ranks second in batting average (.650) in NJCAA Division II among batters who've played at least six games. She's tied for sixth with five home runs.
  • Briana Shores (So, Richland/Richland) is tied for 10th in the country with 17 RBI.
  • Kristen Cade (So, Harrison Central/Saucier) is sixth in the country in strikeouts per seven innings (11.54), fifth in strikeouts (39) and 14th in ERA (1.18).
  • Gulf Coast has 45 stolen bases, third-most in the country.
  • The Bulldogs have a 2.01 ERA, seventh in the country.
