Cade wins NJCAA Pitcher of the Week

PERKINSTON — Picking up all four wins in a week against opponents all ranked in the NJCAA Division II Top 20 has earned Mississippi Gulf Coast pitcher Kristen Cade national Pitcher of the Week honors.

Cade, a sophomore from Harrison Central, went 4-0 and had a no-hitter. She struck out nine and walked three in a 7-0 no-hitter over No. 16 LSU Eunice, then pitched the final five outs to cap off a 10-run comeback in a 12-11 victory in the second game.

Cade struck out 10 and walked two in a three-hit 3-0 shutout of No. 12 Itawamba, then won Game 2 with four innings of six-strikeout work in a 7-6 comeback win. She allowed her only two runs of the week in the final outing, only one earned.

She finished the week with 27 strikeouts and six walks.

Cade is the second Gulf Coast player to have won a national award this season. Rakeya Travis was Player of the Week the first week the award was handed out.
