MGCCC Golf team hoping to three-peat in 2010

  • You hear people talk about a team's "glory days." For the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College golf team, these are the glory days of the program. Gulf Coast is coming off back-to-back Region 23 titles. Last season the Bulldog finished ninth at the NJCAA Division II National Championship event in Scottsboro, AL. Golf Coach Tommy Snell said the good news is that all eight of his freshmen from last year's team are coming back in 2010. That means he goes into the upcoming season with an all-sophomore roster.

  • MGCCC golf team 8th at MGCCC Invitational

    Meridian Community College beat a stellar field that included three former National Champions at the 2009 MGCCC Hilton Garden Inn Invitational Golf Tournament Oct. 19-20 at Windance Country Club. The Eagles put together rounds of 287-294--581 to win the 18-team tournament by 16 shots over South Mountain (AZ) and John A Logan College (IL).

  • MGCCC golf takes 9th at Meridian Tournament

    Gulf Coast finished 9th with a 299-305-295--899 total in the Jim Redgate Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Briarwood CC in Meridian, MS. Host Meridian won the event after firing rounds of 289-287-291 for an 867 total and a 2-shot victory over Central Alabama at 869. Wallace State (873) finished 3rd, followed by Faulkner State (875), Spring Hill (877), Univ of Mobile (884), Darton (885) Co-Lin (897), Gulf Coast (899), East Central (938) and Pearl River (958).

Gulf Coast is coming off back-to-back Region 23 titles. Last season the Bulldog finished ninth at the NJCAA Division II National Championship event in Scottsboro, AL. Golf Coach Tommy Snell said the good news is that all eight of his freshmen from last year’s team are coming back in 2009-10. That means he goes into the upcoming season with an all-sophomore roster.

    “We’re in great shape,” Snell said. “All the guys are improving and they all competed in events this summer.”
