No. 19 MGCCC storms into MACJC title game

No. 19 Mississippi Gulf Coast pounded Itawamba 7-2 Saturday in Ridgeland to cruise into the MACJC championship game.

 

Jordan Hall (So, Manchester, England/Royton and Crompton) had three goals and an assist to power the Bulldogs. Caleb Counselman (So, Pass Christian/Pass Christian) had two goals and an assist.

 

"As playoff games go, you couldn't ask for more," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. Nobody had to play a ton, and we got to play our subs. We should be pretty rested for tomorrow."

 

The Bulldogs (13-2) play archrival Pearl River (10-6-2) at 1 p.m. at Freedom Park. The Wildcats defeated East Central 3-0 in the other semifinal.

 

C.J. Smith (Fr, Brampton, Ontario/David Suzuki Secondary School) opened the scoring in the third minute. Counselman and Hall scored in the seventh minute to cap an explosive start.

 

Oscar Loya Loya (Fr, Horn Lake/Horn Lake) scored in the 22nd minute for a 4-0 lead.

 

Jeff Bruni Jr. (So, Gulfport/Gulfport) had two assists, and Michael Rodriguez (Fr, McAllen, Texas/McAllen) had one.
