Schloegel will play in finals
Anthony Schloegel will play for a back-draw championship Friday at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship in Tucson, Ariz.
"I think he's got a good chance," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "He's playing really good. I think he's playing the best he's played all year. He's got a lot of confidence."
Schloegel (Fr., Gulfport/St. Patrick) defeated Hinds' Drew Rexrode in the No. 6 singles semifinals on Thursday, winning 7-5, 6-4. He'll play Barton's Twer Letecheur at 9 a.m. CT.
"The win this morning was good for him," Bourgeois said. "He beat the guy from Hinds, who was the only person to beat him in the state this year. He got some revenge today."
The Bulldogs had three other positions lose in the consolation bracket on Thursday, including dropping a pair of tiebreakers in doubles.
