Defending champs open playoffs vs. Holmes

Mississippi Gulf Coast opens defense of its NJCAA Region 23 women's basketball championship on Thursday, when the Bulldogs host a first-round game.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (13-13) will be playing 10th-seeded Holmes (13-16) at Dantzler Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Buy your tickets ahead of time to save money. It costs $7 for adults or $5 for youth online, or $10 and $7 at the gate. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

Gulf Coast finished in a three-way tie with Southwest and Meridian for sixth in the final MACCC standings. The Bulldogs finished second in that tiebreak to get the seventh seed.

Holmes finished tied for 10th and won a tiebreaker with Northwest.

Gulf Coast beat Holmes 67-51 on Jan. 16 at Goodman. The winner advances to the quarterfinals and heats to Fulton to play Itawamba on March 10.
