Bulldogs put 4 on All-MACCC team
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast put four players on the 2024 All-MACCC Women's Soccer team, the most the Bulldogs have had in four years.
Laurel Conley and Laylah Johnson earned Second Team honors, with Bri Gasaway and Dana Brooks getting spots on the Honorable Mention list.
Gulf Coast finished 9-5-1 overall with a 6-4-1 record in the MACCC. They finished sixth in the conference, advancing to the NJCAA Gulf District Tournament quarterfinals for the second straight season.
The 2021 Bulldogs team had five players named to the All-MACCC South team before the conference did away with divisions.
Laurel Conley, Second Team
Conley, a freshman keeper from Ocean Springs, was spectacular in her first collegiate season. She finished with a 1.20 goals-against average after playing every minute of the season in goal. Conley had six shutouts, including five straight to start the season.
She led the MACCC in shutouts, and her goals-against average was third-best.
Laylah Johnson, Second Team
Johnson, a speedy freshman forward from Gulfport, was on her way to a spot on the first team before being injured and missing the final five games of the year. She still finished with 12 goals and four assists as the Bulldogs' leading scorer.
She scored four goals in a 6-2 win over Southwest Mississippi and registered goals in eight of the 11 games she played in. Despite missing a third of the season, Johnson still finished tied for seventh in the MACCC in goals.
Dana Brooks, Honorable Mention
Brooks, a sophomore center back from Alajuela, Costa Rica, was the anchor of the conference second-stingiest defense. The Bulldogs allowed just 1.20 goals per game.
She picked up one assist, but her speed helped her be a key cog in the Gulf Coast defensive efforts all year.
Bri Gasaway, Honorable Mention
Gasaway, a freshman defensive midfielder from Ocean Springs, provided a vital line of defense in front of Gulf Coast's back four. She played a big part in helping the Bulldogs give up only 1.20 goals per game.
Gasaway had a goal in the first game of the season against Pellissippi State.
