Ross, Brooks earn Scholar All-American

PERKINSTON — Two Mississippi Gulf Coast women's soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American team, the organization announced Thursday.

Neave Ross was named to the First Team, and Dana Brooks earned a spot on the Second Team. Gulf Coast and Jones were the only MACCC schools with award winners, and both had two.

The Junior College division award is given to sophomores and requires a 3.30 GPA, a player play in 75 percent of games and be an elite player.

Ross, a sophomore center back from Whitley Bay, England, scored a goal for the Bulldogs this year, but she a key piece of a strong spine that helped Gulf Coast reach the playoffs for the second straight season. She was an All-NJCAA Region 23 and All-MACCC player as a freshman.

Ross has a 4.00 GPA in geological sciences.

Brooks, a sophomore center back from Alajuela, Costa Rica, was the anchor of the conference second-stingiest defense. The Bulldogs allowed just 1.20 goals per game. She picked up one assist, but her speed helped her be a key cog in the Gulf Coast defensive efforts all year.

Brooks has a 3.94 GPA in computer science.
