Brian Lane named NJCAA Player of the Week
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast catcher/designated hitter Brian Lane has been named OC Sports NJCAA Division II Player of the Week.
During the week of March 21-27, he batted .667 and drove in six runs as the Bulldogs went 4-0 against Hinds and Coahoma. He had multiple hits in each game.
"It means everything," Lane said. "We come in here and work hard every day. It feels great to know it pays off."
In the opening game against Hinds, he drove in three runs with two hits, including a double. He went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the nightcap.
Lane broke out of a 2-for-16 mini-slump, raising his batting average 46 points that day.
"I feel good in the box," he said. "I feel better than ever before."
Lane went 4-for-7 in a sweep of Coahoma to raise his batting average to .373.
