No. 1 Bulldogs back in action at Dancing Rabbit
PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast gets back into competition Monday after a little down time, opening play at the Chris Clark Invitational in Philadelphia.
The MACCC event hosted by East Central is being played at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, but there will be something new for the teams. They'll be playing the Azalea Course.
"It'll be different from where we played regional last year," Gulf Coast coach Brad Thornton said. "It's a much tougher golf course. It's really demanding off the tee. It's hosted some really good state events over the past few years. We're looking forward to a good week."
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, which came out Friday. They also top Clippd's National Collegiate Golf Rankings.
John Mark Mills (So., Pontotoc/Mike Bender Golf Academy), Stanley Campbell (So., London, England/Essex Golf College), Ludvig Behring (So., Sollentuna, Sweden/Osterakers Gymnasium), Peyton Russell (So., Gautier/Gautier) and Grayson Lockhart (Fr., Starkville/Oak Hill Academy) will be Gulf Coast's five-player squad. Garner Seymour (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) is making the trip as an individual.
The Bulldogs have won the three MACCC events they've competed it and five straight overall. They last played in the Gulf Coast Invitational on Feb. 10-11.
"We're still trying to get in a groove," Thornton said. "We're really excited to have three events over the next four weeks. Getting back into it competitively and not just playing against ourselves is going to be exciting."
