Campbell named Gary Player Award finalists

PERKINSTON — After winning the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship as an individual and leading Mississippi Gulf Coast to its second national title in a row, Stanley Campbell was a shoo-in for his latest honor.

He's one of six NJCAA golfers who are finalists for the Gary Player International Golfer of the Year, announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America in partnership with FlightScope.

Campbell, a sophomore from London, England, won medalist at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind., by two shots and played a clutch 72nd hole to help the Bulldogs maintain their one-shot lead for the school's third championship.

He won three times this year and finished ranked atop the Clippd National Collegiate Golf Rankings. Campbell had eight top-three finishes and was in the top 10 in all 13 events. His 71.36 stroke average is the third-best in school history.

Campbell was selected for the PING and NJCAA All-American First Team, and he's signed with NJCAA Division I Jacksonville State to continue his college career.

The other five finalists include Hutchinson's Charlie Box, from England; Heartland's Gabriele Bravin, from Italy; Odessa's Adam Bresnu, from Morocco; South Mountain's Jorge Parada, from Mexico; and Midland's Scott Spark, from Scotland.
