No. 14 MGCCC men get past ICC
PERKINSTON — No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast narrowly edged Itawamba 5-4 in men's tennis action at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in MACJC play. They have won seven straight.
The schools saw four singles matches go to third-set tiebreakers, which the teams split. Gulf Coast got wins in those matches by John Murphy (Fr, Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen) and Reid Cudd (Fr, Wiggins/Stone).
Murphy and Travis Bell teamed to win their No. 1 doubles match without dropping a game, and Noah Tippen and Noah Rowell won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Bell also won his No. 1 singles match.
Gulf Coast has a busy week ahead, with four MACJC matches in five days. The Bulldogs travel to Northwest on Tuesday, then play at Copiah-Lincoln and at East Central on Thursday and Friday.
They finish by hosting Meridian on Saturday. Matches start at 11 a.m.
