Bulldog battle back but fall to Bears

A furious late rally by the Mississippi Gulf Coast women fell just short Monday night in a 55-52 defeat at Southwest Mississippi in Summit.

The Bulldogs (3-7, 2-7 MACCC South) trailed by 11 with 4:30 left in the game and managed to cut the deficit to one before the Bears (6-3, 6-3) hit two free throws with 6.7 seconds for the final margin.

Gulf Coast got a 3-point shot off from the left wing before the buzzer, but it missed.

TK Catchings (Fr., New Hebron/Simpson Academy) led Gulf Coast with 16 points, and Aniya Saddler had 10.

The Bulldogs led 25-24 at halftime but managed only nine third-quarter points to trail by three headed into the final 10 minutes.

Gulf Coast travels to Utica on Thursday to play Hinds. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs beat Hinds 89-80 in double overtime last Thursday. It was their second straight South Division victory, a streak that ended Monday.
