Dean named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week

PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast linebacker Reggio Dean has been named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week following the No. 9 Bulldogs 40-23 win at Northeast.

The freshman from Laurel had 11 tackles, including seven solos, plus an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in his first collegiate game.

"Reggio deserves this one," Bulldogs head coach Chad Huff said. "He plays hard and gives great effort. He comes to work every day, and it showed up there. He plays like he practices and that's good to see."

His 32-yard interception return in the final minute of the first half set up a scoring opportunity Gulf Coast couldn't convert, but his fourth-quarter fumble return squelched a Northeast drive that could have cut the led to three. He returned it 72 yards to set up short Bulldogs touchdown drive that created the final margin of victory. Dean also forced a fumble.
