Chan named All-Region
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast forward Dedoch Chan has been named NJCAA All-Region 23 by region coaches.
Chan, a 6-foot-8 freshman from Rochester, Minn., averaged nearly a double-double during a 16-9 season for the Bulldogs. He scored 16.8 points and grabbed 8.3 rebounds, both of which led the team.
"He's a big kid. He's 6-8, 215 or 220, and he's a very versatile kid," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "He was starting 3, which is basically a guard. He shot the ball well from the perimeter, which poses problems and makes smaller people guard him out there. When they tried to guard him, we ran him in and posted him up."
He shot 30.0 percent from the 3-point line and 47.0 percent from the field.
Chan was an NCAA qualifier, who came to Gulf Coast to improve his recruiting profile. He now boasts offers from an array of Division I schools.
"He's a real fundamental kid," Weathers said. "He works hard in the gym, and one of the most underrated things you don't see in most kids is he shot 75 percent from the foul line."
