No. 3 Gulf Coast plays NWCC in tourney opener
PERKINSTON — No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast will start the quest for the MACCC Softball Championship at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Bulldogs, seeded second, take on seven-seed Northwest Mississippi.
The eight-team, double-elimination tournament is being hosted by Itawamba. It runs May 5-8 in Fulton.
The Gulf Coast-Northwest winner will play the winner of the game between six-seed Northeast Mississippi and three-seed Jones on Thursday, May 6, at 5 p.m. The losers of those two games play in the first elimination game Thursday at noon.
The other half of the bracket includes ICC, the top seed, against Hinds, the eighth seed. Fifth-seeded Pearl River and fourth-seeded Copiah-Lincoln play in the last game of the first day.
Five teams will advance from the state tournament to the NJCAA Region 23 Championship which will be played at LSU Eunice from May 12-15.
