Travis, Agner, Avant named All-Region 23
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast, which finished fourth in the nation, landed three players on the All-NJCAA Region 23 Team. Rakeya Travis, K.K. Agner and Anna Avant earned the honors.
"As good as this region is, where two of the top four teams in the country are from this region," Bulldogs coach Kenneth Long said, "it's a big honor."
Gulf Coast finished fourth and Jones was second at the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship last week in Oxford, Ala.
Travis, a sophomore shortstop from Poplarville, batted .437 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI. All those total led the team, and she finished second in the MACCC in RBI and third in home runs.
Agner, a freshman first baseman from Horn Lake, was second on the team with 14 home runs, which tied her for fourth in the MACCC. She batted .390 with 52 RBI.
Avant, a sophomore pitcher from Water Valley, was also named to the All-Tournament team last week. She went 7-4 with a save and a 3.35 ERA, which led the Bulldogs. She went 4-2 at the NJCAA Tournament.
