Bulldogs finish Coyote Classic 3-1

Brooklynn Peterson threw a two-hitter and Mississippi Gulf Coast finished the Coyote Classic 3-1 after splitting a pair of games Saturday in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Peterson didn't allow a hit until the final inning in a 9-1 win over Pensacola State in five innings. The Bulldogs lost 5-3 to Northwest-Shoals.

Gulf Coast is now 14-3.

Brooklynn Peterson (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) only allowed an unearned run and walked just one, needing 59 pitches for a complete game. She got 10 of her 15 outs on fly balls.

Baleigh Tullos (Fr., Hurley/East Central) had a three-run double in a four-run second and finished with four RBI. Madison Laiche (Fr., Luling, La./John Curtis) and Brooklyn Mitchell (Fr., Gulfport/St. Patrick) had two hits, and Aleah Beaugez (So., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) doubled.

In the second game, the Patriots scored three times in the top of the first, and the Bulldogs never got even. Tullos and Annaston Tate (Fr., Waynesboro/Wayne County) had two hits, with Tate getting a double.

Gulf Coast will travel to Vicksburg on Friday to play in the JUCO Classic hosted by Hinds. The Bulldogs play Parkland and Kirkwood on the first day, followed by games against LSU Eunice and Southeast Arkansas on Saturday.
