Gulf Coast going for sweep against Baton Rouge

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast went to Baton Rouge in early November and beat the Lady Bears at their season-opening tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs will try to complete a season sweep Thursday when Baton Rouge visits the Weathers/Wentzell Center. Tipoff is at 5:30 pm.

They'll be playing without Keiara Williams (6-1, Fr, New Orleans/Warren Easton), a key contributor, because of injury.

"We're missing our top scorer and rebounder, and there's another one who will be out," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "We've got them at our house, which is an advantage."

Gulf Coast (3-2) won the first meeting 63-61. Baton Rouge is now 2-6.

"I know they are playing extremely hard, and I hope that we can match that intensity coming out of the gate," Conner said. "If we can defend and rebound, we'll be able to find points."

The Lady Bulldogs open MACJC South play on Monday when Hinds visits Perkinston. Tipoff will be at 5:30, and the game will be streamed at https://livestream.com/BulldogLIVE/hindsvsmgcccbasketball16
