Jolley finishes 16-point comeback against PRCC

PERKINSTON — Jordana Jolley scored the last six points of the game, lifting Mississippi Gulf Coast to a 51-49 come-from-behind win Thursday over archrival Pearl River.

The Lady Bulldogs (7-8, 1-5 MACJC South) stopped a four-game losing streak by erasing a 16-point third-quarter deficit to the Lady Wildcats (8-5, 1-5).

"We needed that," Jolley said. "We were down for a while now. This was one needed desperately. There was no way we were going to take an L at home."

Keiara Williams (6-1, Fr, New Orleans/Warren Easton) led a balanced Gulf Coast attack with 10 points and had four rebounds.

Deona Morgan (5-7, Fr, Ocean Springs/St. Martin) and Shaniqua Tobias (5-6, So, New Orleans/Warren Easton) had eight points. Eanna Sims (5-11, Fr, Jackson/Forest Hill) led the Lady Bulldogs with five rebounds.

Jolley (5-7, Fr, Brandon/Northwest Rankin) also finished eight points, three rebounds and four steals. Her athleticism down the stretch was the difference.

She slashed to the rim with 1:53 left to cut the Gulf Coast deficit to 49-47, then drew three trips to the line. She made the first free throw, but stole the ball back immediately afterward, barely missing a layup.

Gulf Coast, using a press which helped turn the game, created a jump ball with 30.6 seconds left that gave it the ball back.

Jordan attacked the basket again and was fouled with 8.9 seconds left.

"That's what she's built for," Conner said. "That's her."

She missed the first, but a lane violation gave her two more chances. Jolley made them both for the Lady Bulldogs' first lead since midway into the first quarter.

Pearl River ran the ball up court, but Jolley picked the guard's pocket to seal the win after one more free throw.

"We needed this," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "This is good for them. We'll try to get ready for Southwest."

Gulf Coast returns to action Monday, traveling to Southwest. Tipoff in Summit is at 5:30 p.m.
